The Furruckabad Tramway, 1854-85, is referred to the India Office Records (IOR) – see ‘Records’ below.
It has not been able to determine if this 'tramway on the river sands' was ever constructed or if, at a later date was incorporated into a railway line.
Furruckabad (later becoming Farrukhabad) is on the banks of the River Ganges.
Farrukhabad is the spelling given in the “Imperial Gazetteer of India,1909” [1] which states ‘the Cawnpore-Achnera railway passes through the length of the district’.
The Cawnpore Farukhabad Provincial State Railway, metre gauge(MG) line from Farrukhabad to Miranserai (37 miles/59km) opened 1 February 1881 and Miranserai to Cawnpore (49 miles/78km) opened 15 December 1880. It is possible that the route of the tramway was incorporated into this railway. This railway became the Cawnpore-Achnera Provincial State Railway in 1884.
