How to interpret this infobox |
The Jind-Panipat Railway (JPR) was a 41 mile(66km) broad gauge(BG) line which connected Jind, a station on the Southern Punjab Railway line from Delhi to Bhatinda, with Panipat, a station on the East Indian Railway route from Delhi north to Amballa and Kalka. The line opened in November 1916 and comprised two sections:-
- ‘Jind-Panipat Railway - British Section; BG, opened in 1916 as a 15 mile(24km) section of the ‘Delhi-Umballa-Kalka Railway’ from Panipat Junction to “2¾ miles from Madhuka” . The line connected to the ‘Jind-Panipat Railway - Indian State Section’, 26 miles(41km). Both sections funded by Jind State Durbar. The entire railway was originally worked by the ‘East Indian Railway’(EIR) as part of the ‘EIR System’ [1]. The line was constructed by the ‘ Delhi-Umballa-Kalka Railway Company’ from funds supplied by the Jind Durbar. The Company was taken over by the Government of India (GoI) in 1925 and the working transferred to the North Western Railway(NWR) on 1 Apr 1926 [2].
- ‘Jind-Panipat Railway - Indian State Section, earlier named the ‘Native State Section’ [1], BG, 26 miles(41km) from Jind City to “2¾ miles from Madhuka” where it connected to the ‘Jind-Panipat Railway - British Section’ 15 mile(24km). Both sections opened 1916 funded by Jind State Durbar. Originally worked by EIR , then from 1 Apr 1926 by NWR [2].
