The Delhi-Samasatta Railway was opened in 1897 by the Southern Punjab Railway Company(SPR) connecting Delhi with Samasatta via Bhatinda.

The line passed through Muktasar and Fazilka and provided direct connection through Samasatta (now in Pakistan) to Karachi.

The Macleodganj Railway extension from Macleodganj (later renamed Mandi Sadiqganj and now in Pakistan) to Ludhiana was opened by the SPR in 1905.
