The Navanagar State Railway from Navanager to Rajkot opened in 1897. The line was a metre gauge(MG) line with a length of 54 miles (87km) and owned by Navanager State. This line was originally called the Jamnagar State Railway after the district around Navanager and connected to the Bhavnagar-Gondal-Junagad-Porbandar Railway at Rajkot. [1]

The line was worked, and known as Jamnagar State Railway as part of the Bhavnagar-Gondal-Junagad-Porbandar Railway(BGJPR) system until the system was dissolved in 1911. [2]
