Surat-Bombay Railway

The Surat-Bombay Railway was the first section of the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway Company(BB&CIR) network. In 1855, the company commissioned the first section of 29 mile(46km) of broad gauge(BG) line from Ankleshwar to Utran in Gujarat State on West Coast. The first train ran 1 Jan 1861 and the Bombay-Surat-Baroda-Ahmedabad route was completed by 1865.

An on-line search of the India Office Records (IOR) records held at the British Library relating to this railway [1] gives several entries for the year 1857 which give remarks and opinions from a number of towns and States – Malwa , Broach, Rajputana, Neriad, Gujerat, Baroda, Ratlam. Also
