The Pench Valley Coalfield Railway was a 2ft 6in/762mm narrow gauge(NG)line, length 22 miles (36km). The line ran from the Pench and Kanhan coalfields to Chhindwara; where it connected to the Bengal Nagpur Railway(BNR) Satpura Railway network centred on Nagpur. The line opened in 1906-7 and was worked by BNR. [1] [2] [3]

The expansion of the Pench and Kanhan coalfields required an additional outlet and the Eastern Section broad gauge(BG) branch of the Itarsi-Nagpur Railway was opened in 1915. [4]
