The Walajah Road-Ranipet Railway was a short broad gauge(BG) 4 mile (6km) branch line of Madras Railway(MR) linking Ranipet to the mainline.

The line opened on 17 April 1899 [1] and was recorded in 1899 in the North Arcot section of the "Gazetteer of South India" by W.Francis [2].

The IOR [3] Catalogue gives a Contract, dated 1 November 1901 with the remark 'Madras Railway Company, Contract relating to the construction and working of a branch railway from Walajah Road to Ranipet'

MR became Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway(M&SMR) in 1908

Refer to FIBIS Fact File #4: “Research sources for Indian Railways, 1845-1947” - available from the Fibis shop. This Fact File contains invaluable advice on 'Researching ancestors in the UK records of Indian Railways' with particular reference to the India Office Records (IOR) held at the British Library

An on-line search of the IOR records relating to this railway [3] gives the following: -
