Synopsis
Sulaiman Askari commanded a large Turkish and Arab force at Nasariyeh from where he threatened Basra. Forces under Maj-Gen Melliss were sent to meet him at Shaiba ten miles west of Basra. The Turks were defeated after a prolonged engagement and Sulaiman Askari shot himself.
