Wadi Cement Works Railway

A cement works was established in Wadi, Kalburgi District in the state of Hydrabad as 'The Shahabad Cement Co' for which Tata Ltd was the Managing Agent. It first produced cement in 1925 when it had a capacity of 100,000 tons per annum. Limestone and clay were supplied from the company's own quarries which were 3 miles from the works and linked by a 2ft 6in/762mm narrow gauge(NG) railway operated by the company [1].

Gypsum was brought by rail from Barwar in Jodhpur State and the coal came from Singareni and Bengal. The plant is north of Shahabad station [1] on the broad gauge(BG) mainline and was connected to this BG line. Wadi was a major rail junction on the main line from Bombay to Madras between the Great Indian Peninsula Railway and the Nizam's Guaranteed State Railway.

The company became part of the 'Associated Cement Company Limited' in 1936
