Chronology

  • 1685 raised as the Earl of Plymouth's Regiment of Horse and ranked as the 4th Regiment of Horse
  • 1687 renamed the 4th Regiment of Horse
  • 1746 renamed the 3rd Dragoon Guards
  • 1751 renamed the 3rd Regiment of Dragoon Guards
  • 1921 renamed the 3rd Dragoon Guards (Prince of Wales's)
  • 1922 amalgamated with the 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers) to form the 3rd/6th Dragoon Guards
  • 1928 renamed the 3rd Carabiniers (Prince of Wales's Dragoon Guards)
  • 1941, February 01, a cadre of men became the 25th Dragoons.
  • 1971 amalgamated with The Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons) to form The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers and Greys) (SCOTS DG)
