The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers

Chronology

  • 1689 raised as local militia at Enniskillen by General Zachariah Tiffin
  • 1751 became the 27th (Enniskillen) Regiment of Foot
  • 1881 amalgamated with the 108th Regiment of Foot (Madras Infantry) to become The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers
  • 1968 amalgamated with The Royal Ulster Rifles and The Royal Irish Fusiliers to become The Royal Irish Rangers
  • 1991 amalgamated with the Ulster Defence Regiment to form the new The Royal Irish Regiment (27th (Inniskilling) 83rd and 87th and Ulster Defence Regiment).

Deployments

The 1st Battalion went to India after WW1 and was in India in 1920. One member who was attached to a Signals Company died in Malakand on the North West Frontier,[1] perhaps an indication the Battalion was also in this area.
