Chronology

In the Indian Mutiny the 42nd Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry did not rebel and, in the ensuing disbandment of the Bengal Army regiments, it became the fifth most senior.

  • 1861 became 5th Bengal Native (Light) Infantry
  • 1885 became 5th Bengal (Light) Infantry
  • 1903 became 5th Light Infantry
  • 1922 disbanded
