- 1854 became 5th Infantry, Hyderabad Contingent
- 1903 became 98th Infantry
- 1922 became 4th Battalion 19th Hyderabad Regiment
- 1945 became the Kumaon Regiment
- 1947 allocated to India on Partition

First World War
The 98th Infantry took part in actions in East Africa, including the Battle of Tanga, Persia and Afghanistan in the period 1914-1919. [1]
