Bengal-Nagpur Railway Kharagpur Construction Monorail
Colonel C W Bowles, an Army Civil engineer, was in charge of the construction of the Bengal Nagpur Railway(BNR) works at Kharagpur [1]. He used a monorail based on Ewing System during his time as engineer during laying of tracks for the BNR for transportation of construction materials [2]. He had been appointed by the BNR Company in charge of constructing the Kharagpur Railway Workshops together with houses, schools, churches, hospitals, armory, recreational facilities and a gaol [3].
This experiment allowed him to perfect the monorail based on the Ewing System which he subsequently used to construct the Patiala State Monorail Trainways
