Bowringpet-Chikballapur Railway Madras Railway Kolar Gold Fields Railway |
Bowringpet was the headquarters of the SE taluk of Kolar District, Mysore in the British period. It was named after an officer working in the Kolar Gold Fields and was originally called Maramootlu; it has since been renamed Bangarapet. The town was a junction on the broad gauge Madras Railway for the Kolar Gold Fields Railway, as well as a terminus of the narrow gauge Bowringpet-Chikballapur Railway.
