The following is a copy of the Inscription on the Memorial Tablet in Cawnpore Church as recorded in "History of the East Indian Railway ..." by George Huddlestone Appendix B, pages 280 [1] [2] : —
TO THE MEMORY OF THE ENGINEERS IN THE SERVICE OF THE EAST INDIAN RAILWAY COMPANY,
WHO DIED, AND WERE KILLED, IN THE GREAT INSURRECTION OF 1857.
- John Hodgson, Locomotive Superintendent, died at Allahabad, June 21st.
- R N Mantell, District Engineer, died at Allahabad, June 30th.
- A M M Miller, Resident Engineer, killed at Cawnpore, June 27th.
- A C Heberdben, Resident Engineer, killed at Cawnpore, June 27th.
- W Digges LaTouche, Assistant Engineer, killed at Cawnpore, June 27th.
- Robert Hanna, Assistant Engineer, killed at Cawnpore, June 27th.
- J C Bayne, Assistant Engineer, killed at Cawnpore, June 27th.
- Thomas Byrne, Assistant Engineer, died at Calcutta, July
