Goalundo-Narayanganj Extension Railway Survey

The Goalundo-Narayanganj Extension was surveyed by the Eastern Bengal Railway(EBR) during the period 1894-98. The record states “the object of connecting Calcutta with the Assam-Bengal Railway” [1].

This line was not constructed; it involved crossing the River Ganges.

A further survey was undertaken in 1906 to connect this proposed line to the proposed Hajiganj-Shatnal Railway - see separate page [2].
This line also was not constructed.

A further proposal, the Dacca-Aricha Railway Project was abandoned in 1935 to connect from Aricha on the east banks of the Ganges to Dacca see separate page

Even today the railway stops at Goalundo Ghat Station, a short distance from the ferry terminal at Daulatdia crossing to Paturia on the opposite bank of the Ganges.
