Kilburn & Co

'Kilburn & Co' was a Managing Agent established in the late 1861 by E B Kilburn. By 1923 their office was at 25 Swallow Lane, Calcutta. Their UK based company was 'Kilburn, Brown & Co', London. Their interests were in tea, river steamers and electricity generation industry. They were Agents for motor vehicles and agricultural machinery manufacturers [1].

Tea Gardens

The following Tea Gardens where tramways have been identified are listed on FIBIS page 'Assam Tea Industry' as having 'Kilburn & Co' as Managing Agent:-

  • 'Assam Co Ltd' with a number of Tea Gardens in the Sibsar District, all served by 2ft/610mm narrow gauge(NG) railways

River Steamer and Railway Interests

The 'Jorhat Provincial State Railway', from 1 Oct 1927, maintenance, management and working of this railway made over to Messrs Macneil and Co, Agents for ‘Rivers Steam Navigation Ltd’ and Messrs Kilburn & Co, Managing Agents for ‘Indian General Navigation and Railway Company[2].
