Ramachandra Pandurang Tope (1814-1859) known as Tatya Tope was a leading general during the Indian Mutiny. He supported Nana Sahib whose inheritance had been denied by the British and was present at the Siege of Cawnpore. He attempted to rescue the Rani of Jhansi and fought a series of engagements during the Central India Campaign. He was eventually captured, tried and hanged at Shivpuri.
