Thomas Arthur, Comte de Lally, Baron de Tollendal (1702-1766) was an Irish Jacobite who became a French general. He commanded a French expedition to India in 1758 and fought the British during the 3rd Carnatic War. He was defeated by Eyre Coote at the Battle of Wandiwash. Taken prisoner in the Siege of Pondicherry in 1761, he was sent a to England and later to France where he was executed.
