Synopsis
Stringer Lawrence with Robert Clive set out from Fort St David for Trichinopoly on 28 March. He managed to evade the French forces under Jacques Law and entered Trichi on 8 April. Law retreated onto the island of Srirangam with Chanda Sahib where they were surrounded by hostile forces.
