== Synopsis ==
Stringer Lawrence with [[Robert Clive ]] set out from Fort St David for Trichinopoly on 28 March. He managed to evade the French forces under Jacques Law and entered Trichi on 8 April. Law retreated onto the island of Srirangam with Chanda Sahib where they were surrounded by hostile forces. A relief force from [[Pondicherry]] under M. d'Auteuil was turned back by Captain Dalton at Ootatoor about 21 April. On 13 June Law finally surrendered to Manoji Appa, the Rajah of Tanjore's general, who had Chanda Sahib executed.
