William Coupar Rennie (1843-1891)

1863 he passed the necessary examination in London for an appointment in the Indian Public Works Department, and on the 24th of June of that year was appointed a Probationary Assistant Engineer. On arrival in India he was posted to the Berar Division, in the province of Hyderabad, Deccan, where he remained till the 23rd of February, 1865, when he resigned the Government service ^[1].

1865-67, for the next two years he was employed by Messrs. Lee, Watson and Ayton, Construction Contractors, as one of their agents on the construction of the Nagpur branch of the Great Indian Peninsula Railway.
1867,re-appointed to the Public Works Department of the Government of India, and was again posted to Berar ^[2].
1869, Nizam's State Railway posted from PWD on survey and construction ^[2].
1880, Bhavnagar-Gondal State Railway, Engineer-in- Chief; with James Rhind working under him as Locomotive Superintendent who, 'with very limited appliances, built the whole of the workshops, put up the machinery, and fitted up the entire rolling-stock for the line, under Mr William Coupar Rennie ^[3].
1890, Retired from Government of India service and returned to Britain ^[2].
