[[Hugh Rose|Sir Hugh Rose]] commanding the Central India Field Force arrived on 21 March 1857 and commenced to besiege the town. By 30 March the bombardment had opened a breach in the walls. [[Tatya Tope]] with 20,000 men arrived but was defeated by the British at the [[Battle of Betwa River]]. Returning to the siege the attackers stormed the town on 3 April. Summary
