Brigadier-General John Jacob CB (1812 – 1858) was an officer of the British East India Company who went to India in 1828 with a commission in the Bombay Artillery. He served in the 1st Afghan War in the artillery and then commanded the Scinde Horse creating a second regiment which was called Jacob's Horse. He was political officer in the Northwest Frontier and the town of Jacobabad was named after him. As a Brigadier-General he commanded the cavalry in the Persian War. He returned to the North West Frontier and raised two regiments of infantry. He died of a fever in 1858.
