- 1751 became the 12th Regiment of Dragoons
- 1768 became the 12th Prince of Wales's Regiment of Light Dragoons
- 1816 became the 12th (The Prince of Wales's) Regiment of (Light) Dragoons (Lancers)
- 1817 became the 12th (The Prince of Wales's) Royal Regiment of (Light) Dragoons (Lancers)
- 1861 became the 12th (Prince of Wales's Royal) Lancers
- 1921 became the 12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's)
- 1960 amalgamated with the 9th (The Queen's Royal) Lancers to form the 9th/12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's)
