The Wadi-Secunderbad Railway opened in 1874. The construction was financed by Nizam of the Princely Hyderabad State and was first named Nizam's Railway.

The line was broad gauge(BG), from Wadi Junction to Secunderabad, opened 1874, 115 miles(185km) [1].

In 1883, on the formation of the Nizam's Guaranteed State Railway(NGSR), the line became the first section of the BG Hyderabad Main Line.

The 6 mile section Hyderabad to Secunderabad was in 1901 converted to mixed gauge (BG and metre gaugeMG) to enable the MG Hyderabad-Godavari Valley Railway MG line to reach Hyderabad
