Begg, Sutherland & Co
'Begg, Sutherland & Co' of Cawnpore was formed in the late 1860's; initially named 'Begg, Christie & Co' then 'Begg, Maxwell & Co'. The company was a Managing Agent for several sugar producing companies and the electricity and tramway system in Cawnpore. In addition the company was an Agent for a light railway supplier [1].
'Begg, Dunlop & Co' of Calcutta had been established before the mid 1850's as a Managing Agent with interests in several industries including jute and tea [1] - see seperate page
The UK based company of both the Calcutta and Cawnpore based companies was 'Begg, Roberts and Co' [1] .

The following Sugar Factories have been identified with 'Begg, Sutherland & Co' as Managing Agent:-
- Barrachakia Sugar Factory, owned by Champaran Sugar Mills Ltd
- Japaha Sugar Factory
- Cawnpore Sugar Works, owned by 'Cawnpore Sugar Works Ltd'
- Prattapur Sugar Factory, owned by 'Purtabpore Sugar Factory Co'
- Balrampur Sugar Factory, owned by the 'British Indian Corporation'
Railway Locomotive Supplier
- Orenstein & Koppel. By Dec 1906 'Begg, Sutherland & Co' were Agents for the German light railway builder and supplier in United Provinces and Behar [2].
Tramway System and Electricity Supplier - Cawnpore
- Cawnpore Tramways and General Electric Works. 'Begg, Sutherland & Co' was Managing Agent for the 'Indian 'Electric Light & Traction Co' which supplied electricity and operated the tramway system in Cawnpore [1]
