Gillanders, Arbuthnot and Co

'Gillanders, Arbuthnot and Co' was a Managing Agent established by F M Gillanders at Lyons Range, Calcutta in 1820. John Ogilvy joined him in 1824 and the company became ' Gillanders, Ogivy' & Co'. In 1833 Ogilvy retired and Captain Arbuthnot joined Gillanders and the company became known as 'Gillanders, Arbuthnot & Co'. Their head office was at 8 Clive Street, Calcuttaand they had offices in Bombay, Madras, Karachi, Lahore and Delhi. Their interests were in tea, jute, timber, building, engineering and oil and a number of mainline railway systems [1].
