Orenstein & Koppel

In 1900 'Orenstein & Koppel', a German light railway builder and supplier opened its Indian office at 48 Hare Street, Calcutta and a workshop and storage facility at Pilkhana in Howrah [1].

By Dec 1906 their Agents were [1]:-

The business of 'Arthur Koppel & Co' was taken over by 'Orenstein & Koppel' in 1909 following the death of Arthur Koppel [2].

The Agents of 'Arthur Koppel & Co' in other parts of India apparantly continued to act for 'Orenstein & Koppel'

  • 'John Fleming & Co' in the Bombay Presidency
  • 'Shaw, Wallace & Co' in the Madras Presidency

The company regularly advertised in Trade Journals claiming it had the largest stock in India of light railway materials for use by contractors, collieries, irigation works, forest works, tea gardens, mills etc.
