Alexandra Bridge
The railway bridge on the river Chenab is situated between Wazirabad and Gujrat, Punjab (now in Pakistan). Construction commenced in 1871 and the bridge was inaugurated by Edward VII the King-Emperor when he was Prince of Wales in 1876. [1]
Francis Joseph Edward Spring was deployed from the Indian Imperial Civil Service's engineering section in 1873 as Consulting Engineer for the survey of the PNSR and the construction of various parts of that Railway and Bridges, including the Alexanda Bridge. Henry Francis Storey, as a young engineer, was deployed from the Public Works Department during the construction and until 1878.
The bridge became part of the Punjab Northern State Railway(PNSR) and provided a vital link in the Lahore to Peshawur line, 270 miles(430km)
