The rebels under [[Rani Lakshmibai]], reinforced by Rao Sahib (nephew of Nana Sahib) and the Rajah of Banda, attacked the British across deep ravines in 40° heat south east of the town. They were forced to retreat however and the town and fort, which were found deserted, were overrun and looted.

Summary

After the victory at the Battle of Koonch, Sir Hugh Rose advanced towards Kalpi. The rebels under Rani Lakshmibai, reinforced by Rao Sahib (nephew of Nana Sahib) and the Rajah of Banda, attacked the British across deep ravines in 40° heat south east of the town. They were forced to retreat however and the town and fort, which were found deserted, were overrun and looted.
