Railways
The Saidpur Railway Workshop, established in 1870 was the major railway workshop for the Eastern Bengal Railway. Saidpur Railway Station was one of the stops on the Eastern Bengal Railway section of the route from Calcutta to Darjeeling.

During British rule the telephone exchange for the whole Assam-Bengal District was situated in Saidpur.

In 1901 Saidpur was the location of one of the companies of the Eastern Bengal Railway Volunteer Rifle Corps
