Jalarpet-Mangalore Mainline
Constructed as a Broad Gauge line connecting Jalarpet to Mangalore. Owned and worked by Madras Railway (MR) up to 31 Dec 1907, then transferred to South Indian Railway.The total length of the line was 417 miles(617km) and with two branches 446 miles(717km)

Progress in Mainline opening
- 1860-61 Jalarpet to Salem. Via Tiruppattur and Morappur
- 1861-62 Salem to Kadalundi (9 miles/15km short of Calicut). Via Sankaridrug, Erode Junction (connection with SIR metre gauge 'Erode Branch'), Podanur, Palakkad Junction(Olavakode), Pattambi, Kuttippuram and Tirur
- 1901-04 Calicut-Azhikal Extension to Azhikal. Via Badagara, Tellicherry and Cannanore
- 1907 Azhikal-Mangalore Extension reached Mangalore. Via Hosdrug, Kasaragod and Kumbla.
