Summary

Following the battle at Alambagh the next objective of Colin Campbell's relief force was the walled enclosure called Secundra Bagh. The place was fortified and strongly defended by the rebels. HM 53rd Foot and 93rd Highlanders with the 4th Punjabi Infantry supported by Shannon's Naval Brigade stormed the stronghold and slaughtered some 2000 sepoys. The troops went on to take the Shah Najif mosque the same day.
