Dighton Probyn
General Sir Dighton MacNaughton Probyn VC, GCB, GCSI, GCVO, ISO (1833–1924) was an officer of the British East India Company who entered the army in 1849. He served on the Yrans-Indus Frontier 1852-57 and in the Punjab Cavalry during the Indian Mutiny. He was a protege of Henry Lawrence and served in the Northwest Frontier. He was Deputy Commissioner of the Punjab after the 2nd Sikh War and commanded a column in the Black Mountain Expedition 1852-53. He founded the town of Abbottabad. He returned to England and died on the Isle of Wight.
