How to interpret this infobox |
The Jodhpur-Hyderabad Railway (JHR) was a metre gauge(MG) line that ran from Luni westwards to Hyderabad in Sind Province, connecting its parent, the Jodhpur-Bikaner Railway, to the North Western Railway. The 124 mile section of line in Sind, from the border of Jodhpur State to Hyderabad, belonged to the Government of India but was worked under contract by the Jodhpur-Bikaner Railway.
History
The first section from Hyderabad to Shadipalli, 55 miles(88km), was opened in 1892 and originally constructed as a broad gauge(BG) line. This section also known as the Hyderabad-Umarkot Railway. This first section was converted to metre gauge(MG) in 1901 and joined to the second section thus providing a MG connection from Jodhpur to Hyderabad [1]
The second section from Shadipalli to Jodhpur, 68 miles(109km), was opened in 1900 as a MG line[1].
The branch line extensions to Jalor and, in the British section, from Mirpurkhas north to Khadro and south to Jhudo were opened by 1921.
In 1924, the JHR became part of the Jodhpur State Railway (JSR) when the Jodhpur-Bikaner Railway was split into the JSR and the Bikaner State Railway.
At Independence in 1947, the British section of the JHR became part of Pakistan Railways.
