Spelling Note
- Phalera is the spelling given in the 1908 Imperial Gazetteer and on the 1909 Map and 1931 Maps as can be seen.
- Phulera is the spelling given in the 1918 Administration Report and the modern name.
Rewari- Phalera Chord
The ‘Rewari- Phalera’ was a ‘Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway’(BB&CIR) metre gauge(MG) chord line, 133 miles (214km), opened 1904-05 connecting Rewari via Narnaul and Reengus to Phalera
[1] on the Delhi-Ahmedabad BB&CIR Main Line.
The route of the line and initial construction had been undertaken by the ‘Rajputana-Malwa State Railway’ (RMSR) from 1897 until 1900 when taken over by the BB&CIR and construction commenced in 1901. The line from Phalera connected through Sambhar to Kuchawan Road where it connected to the ‘Jodhpur-Bikaner Railway’ (JBR) thus providing the direct link between Delhi and Karachi.
Rewari-Kuchman Railway
There was a later proposal to construct an additional chord line directly from Rewari via Kuchawan to Ajmer [2].
This proposed line can be can be seen on the 1909 map as a dotted line (with added ? mark), but was not constructed and does not appear on the 1931 Map .
