The Norfolk Regiment

Chronology

  • 1685 raised as Henry Cornewall's Regiment of Foot by James II
  • 1751 became the 9th Regiment of Foot
  • 1782 became the 9th (East Norfolk) Regiment of Foot
  • 1881 became the Norfolk Regiment;
  • 1935 became the Royal Norfolk Regiment
  • 1959 amalgamated with The Suffolk Regiment to become the 1st Battalion 1st East Anglian Regiment.
  • 1964 became 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment.
