Chronology

• 1685 raised as Henry Cornewall's Regiment of Foot by James II
• 1751 became the 9th Regiment of Foot
• 1782 became the 9th (East Norfolk) Regiment of Foot
• 1881 became the Norfolk Regiment;
• 1935 became the Royal Norfolk Regiment
• 1959 amalgamated with The Suffolk Regiment to become the 1st Battalion 1st East Anglian Regiment.
• 1964 became 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment.

He appears likely to have been 2nd Battalion, Norfolk Regiment, although the 2nd Battalion is generally stated to have been in Mesopotamia during this period. Perhaps there was a Depot in India?
