The ‘Rewari- Phalera Chord ‘ was a ‘Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway’(BB&CIR) metre gauge(MG) chord line, 133 miles, opened 1904-05 connecting [1] Rewari via Narnaul and Reengus to Phalera on the Delhi-Ahmedabad BB&CIR Main Line.

The route of the line and initial construction had been undertaken by the ‘Rajputana-Malwa State Railway’ (RMSR) until 1900 when taken over by BB&CIR.

The line became part of the BB&CIR MG network. This chord shortened the distance between these towns and avoided the longer route via Alwar and Jaipur

The line from Phalera connected through Sambhar to Kuchawan Road where it connected to the ‘Jodhpur-Bikaner Railway’ (JBR) thus providing the direct link between Delhi and Karachi.

Remarks

  • For further details on the route selection, survey, and construction see separate page which explains the relationship of this railway to others in Rajputana.
  • There were some proposals to construct an additional chord line directly from Rewari via Kuchaman to Ajmer.
  • Some records give a section of this as the ‘Rewari-Kuchman Railway’.
  • This proposal can be seen on the 1909 map as a dotted line (with added ? ? marks), but was not constructed as it does not appear on the 1931 Map.

Spelling Note

  • Phalera is the spelling given in the 1908 Imperial Gazetteer and on the 1909 Map and 1931 Maps as can be seen.
  • Phulera is the spelling given in the 1918 Administration Report and the modern name.
