Chronology
In the Indian Mutiny the 31st Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry did not rebel and fought in the Central India Campaign. Almost the entire Bengal Army had mutinied and, in the ensuing disbandment of its regiments, the 31st became the second most senior.
- 1861 became 2nd Bengal Light Infantry
- 1876 became the 2nd (Queen's Own) Regiment of Bengal Native Light Infantry
- 1897 became the 2nd (Queen's Own) Regiment of Rajput Bengal Light Infantry
- 1901 became the 2nd (Queen's Own) Rajput Light Infantry
- 1911 became the 2nd Queen Victoria's Own Rajput Light Infantry
- 1922 became the 2nd (Queen Victoria's Own Light Infantry) Battalion, 7th Rajput Regiment
- 1947 allocated to India on Partition
- 1947 renamed 1st Battalion The Rajput Regiment
