The Saurashtra Railway was formed in 1948 from the merger of the several smaller railways operating in the Gujerat peninsula viz
- the Bhavnagar State Railway(BSR),
- the Gondal Railway(GSR) with the Porbandar State Railway(PSR) that it had earlier absorbed,
- the Jamnagar and Dwarka Railway
- the Junagadh State Railway(JunSR),
- the Morvi Railway(MRWR)
- the Dhrangadra Railway
- the Okhamandal State Railway
- the Baria State Railway
- the Rajpipla Railway
- the Bhavnagar Tramway
amongst others
