The Yelahaka-Bangarpet Railway , previoiusly named the Yelahaka-Bowringpet Section is the description of a section of 2ft 6in/762mm narrow gauge(NG) railway owned by the Durbar for Kolar and Mysore District Board and operated by ‘Mysore State Railway’(MSR) [1]

History

The ‘Kolar District Railway’, a 2ft 6in/762mm narrow gauge(NG) line from Bowringpet (later named Bangarapet) to Chik-Ballapur (later named Chikkaballapura), a length of 64 miles(102km) . The line opened from 1913 and completed by 1916.

The ‘Chikballapur-Bangalore City Railway , 38 miles(61km), NG connected to the ‘Kolar District Railway’ at Chik-Ballapur , the line fully opened by 1918

Thus by 1918 Bowringpet was connected fully by NG railways through to Bangalore, a total of 102 miles(164km).

The section from Yelahaka to Bangalore was subsequently dismantled.[1] leaving the line with the description Yelahaka-Bangarpet Railway, worked as part of the ‘Mysore State Railway’(MSR).

The date of this part closure has not been determined, it was certainly after 1937 [2] where is was noted that this section had been converted to mixed gauge 2ft 6 in NG and metre gauge(MG) with running rights given to the ‘Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway’(M&SMR). It can be assumed this section, once closed was operating on MG by the M&SMR.
